Metal Tools Found at the Belgrade Fortress: from Antiquity to the end of the 18th century
A co-publishing project with the Archaeological Institute, Belgrade.
Several-decades-long archaeological explorations of the Belgrade Fortress resulted in unearthing a considerable number of metal tools. Until this book was published, these tools had not been the subject of a comprehensive study. The book Metal Tools Found at the Belgrade Fortress: from Antiquity to the end of the 18th century features a catalogue of tools found until 2000 in which the objects are grouped by function, type and period. The analysis of the share of a particular type of tools among objects dating from a certain period provides an insight into the economic structure of the population of the Belgrade Fortress in different epochs. Based on these data, the author traces the process of social division leading to the emergence of different social strata. Owing to the rise of crafts, the population of the Fortress was transformed to an urban population.
